Wolverhampton Wanderers initially signed Raúl Jiménez from Benfica on a season-long loan deal and made his stay permanent in the summer, with the player signing a four-year deal.
The Mexico international first arrived in Europe when Atlético Madrid signed him from América.
However, he struggled to impress during his time with Los Rojiblancos, scoring one goal and registering two assists in 21 La Liga appearances.
Atlético side then decided to sell him to the Portuguese side and the 28-year-old continued his poor spell, managing only 31 goals in 120 appearances in all competitions.
This led Benfica to allow the North American join Nuno Espírito Santo’s side last summer and he has impressed for the Premier League side, scoring 30 goals and registering 11 assists for Wolves since the start of the 2018/19 season.
Atlético president Enrique Cerezo has now admitted he regrets his decision to sell Jiménez to Benfica.“Effectively, people regret many things, but in football it is so. Players succeed in one club and not another. Sometimes there are players who feel uncomfortable and and this does not mean that they are not good players,” O Jogo quoted Cerezo as saying about the Wolves attacker.
